Posidonia oceanica is a flowering plant living in the Mediterranean.

It forms extensive meadows which harbour more than 400 flora species and 1000 species of fauna, enriching the surrounding habitats.

It also contributes to the water transparency and provides high quality white sand.

Sponges of Kalymnos seabed

Sponges are a prominent invertebrate group. They are sessile animals. With limited ability for dispersal.

Sponges act as ecosystem engineers. Increasing habitat complexity. They develop complex associations with other  organisms. 

Sponges come at a plethora of shapes and colors.
