Bengt Borjeson is a pioneer underwater photographer and
filmmaker.
In 1955 he visited Kalymnos island Greece, got hooked by the
mentality and way of life of sponge divers and decided to make a documentary. The film
was finished in 1965 and is very impressive because it documents the
social reality and sponge industry in the 1960s but also for the unique real
underwater shooting at a time that underwater cinematography was still in its
infancy.
Thanks
to Bengt Borjeson we have unique underwater shootings of diving methods that no
more exist like the skandalopetra dive and the Fernez diving system.
Bengt Borjeson was very generous to Kalymnos and it's history and
gave KALYMNOS CINEMA CLUB the right to subtitle and distribute his film.
The photos are from Bengt's visit in Kalymnos and the projection of his film "Sponge Divers" by KALYMNOS
CINEMA CLUB during Kalymnos Diving Festival 2005.
Starting from summer 2010,
the new members of the
KALYMNOS Diving Center members Club, will receive a free copy of
the film of Bengt Borjeson!
